3030 E. Crown Street Staged Reading

September 24, 2022 | 6:30 PM

Langston Hughes Performing Arts Institute
Written by Jeffrey L. Cheatham II, 3030 E. Crown St is a story about Lamont “L-Jay” Judge, confronting a family tragedy after he discovers that his family home is for sale. The story touches on the themes of grief, family, and the impact they have on our choices later in life.
Jeffrey L. Cheatham is a children’s book author who began publishing his books in 2014. In 2017, he participated in the staged reading performance of Every 28 Hours at Langston Hughes Performing Arts Institute, which launched his formal interest in theater. He wrote 3030 E. Crown St in 2020, after driving past his “Big Momma’s” house and was flooded with feelings of nostalgia; remembering family dinners, fun times with cousins, and the joy of family being together. Those memories inspired Jeffrey to tell the story of the emotional impact the loss of losing “Big Momma’s” house had on his life. Jeffrey’s goal is to inspire conversation within the community about addressing important and lingering issues before major decisions are made.
We invite you to join us for this free staged reading, so that Jeffrey may continue the necessary work needed to finalize this play and bring it to life.
