Gabriel Teodros is a musician, organizer, educator, DJ, and writer who was born and raised in South Seattle. He first gained attention with his group Abyssinian Creole and later reached an international audience with his solo debut Lovework. Since then, he has toured widely, released over 300 songs spanning over 15 bodies of work, while also producing albums for artists like Prometheus Brown and Rell Be Free. His work has been featured by outlets such as Rolling Stone, NPR Music, Okayplayer, and MTV, and several of his albums have topped the CMJ and NACC hip-hop charts.

As an organizer, he helped shape Hidmo’s creative direction, and he helped bring multiple festivals to life, including Palestine Will Live Forever and Block Party at The Station. As an educator, he has led classes in the UW Honors Program, The Residency, and countless schools and community organizations nationwide. As a writer, he has published essays, speculative fiction, poetry, and interviews, and as a DJ, he hosted the radio show Early every weekday morning from 2020 to 2023 on KEXP, where he also helped launch the shows Sounds of Survivance and Overnight Afrobeats (now known as The Continent).

Across all of this work, storytelling and community building have remained central. His long relationship with LANGSTON began in 1999. The space offered and the community he met with twice a month in the downstairs multipurpose room are foundational to the artist he became. He is so excited to pour back into the community that raised and helped shape him, and to open doors for younger artists who are still trying to find their place.
